Rugby International at Kinver High

Over the last two weeks Worcester Warriors RFC have delivered rugby workshops for our Year 8 and Year 9 students. Kinver have had the chance to work with professional coaches, improve their rugby knowledge and hone their expertise. All the students involved have had a really good experience and last week they were lucky enough to welcome a special guest … Aleki Lutui.

Aleki Lutui, who captained Tonga in several rugby World Cups, played professionally for 18 years at some very high profile clubs including The Chiefs (New Zealand), Worcester Warriors, Edinburgh and Gloucester Rugby clubs. When asked ‘who was the best player he had played against?’ Aleki simply replied: “The All Blacks, they are just incredible. They are relentless, their forwards hit so hard, and their backs are so fast. If I had to pick one player that I really enjoyed playing against it would be Keven Mealamu, what a competitor!”

Aleki, said: “I enjoyed working with the students at Kinver. They worked hard, demonstrated a great team spirit and show a lot of potential.”

Mr Wilkes, Head of PE, said: “On behalf of Kinver High I would like to thank Aleki and Worcester Warriors RFC for helping us deliver some high quality rugby sessions.

“I have been really impressed with the lads’ attitude to learning this year and in particular for playing rugby. They are developing into a strong squad and are consistently demonstrating the core values of rugby - teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, sportsmanship. A massive thank you to England Rugby and in particular Adam Blackford who is currently providing training for KS4 and KS3 girls on a Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime, and Matt Jones from Worcester Warriors for assisting with our Y11 GCSE workshops. Rugby at Kinver has really taken off and I think it will continue to grow, watch this space for the next future development.”
