Aspiring Engineers visit Marches Centre of Manufacturing & Technology

Last Friday 14 lucky Kinver High School students visited Marches Centre of Manufacturing & Technology (MCMT) in Bridgnorth.

The Year 9 students were invited along to explore the possibility of a future  career in engineering. Our host for the day was none other than former Kinver High School D & T and Science teacher, Mr Heeks; who has been the workshop manager at MCMT for the past 2 years.

Mr Heeks has worked with hundreds of apprentices at the £5 million, truly world class, facility and it was a real privilege and elite experience for our students.

The itinerary for the day consisted of a tour of the facility followed by a short talk on Engineering Apprenticeship opportunities. The talk was excellent and really helped our students understand the endless possibilities….and financial rewards, of a career in engineering!

Following the talk and tour our students went to work, a 3 hour workshop on pneumatics, their brief was to create a simple (then progress to a more…much much more…complicated) circuit that used compressed air to move a cylinder, which is easy now they know how!

Design and Technology teacher, Mr Wilks and the students would like to thank Mr Heeks and the team at The MCMT for their hospitality and wonderful insight, we cannot wait to visit again!
