Virtual Induction

Virtual Induction – Headteacher’s Welcome

Hi, my name is Mrs Clifton, and I am very proud to be the headteacher here at Kinver High School, welcome to our virtual tour!

Our virtual tour and induction has been released a little later than the other Invictus schools, simply because of the sheer amount of work we have had going on at the school to make it a better environment for our students when they return! As you will see from some of the tours work is still on going although we are now nearing completion. You will also notice that all of our rooms and spaces are set up to ensure we are adhering to COVID-19 safety guidance so that the students and staff we do have in school are safe. When you do arrive we hope to be back to ‘normal’.

We also have the exciting news that our new Sports Hall/Complex has started and will be completed by September 2021! Very exciting times for Kinver High School

If you are not yet a student but like what you see and would like to join us in September 2020 please visit our admissions page to apply!

Please take a minute to watch my video directly below. Enjoy the tour!

Our tour works best with Google Chrome, click here to download for free – https://www.google.co.uk/chrome/

All video clips are embedded directly from our YouTube channel, meaning subtitles are available by selecting ‘turn subtitles on’ in the menu option within each video player.

Invictus Education Trust Chief Executive Officer

Where we differ from other multi academy trusts is our intention to collaborate, in every way.

This starts with the ‘Invictus Culture’ which has seen all of our schools, and Sixth Form, adopt a shared vision, mission and set of values.

Invictus Vision

Our communities will have access to an outstanding education. Our schools and 6th form cater for the social, economic and cultural diversity that our country is comprised of and deliver opportunities and experiences that celebrate that diversity. We are to be locally based, but nationally important.

Invictus Mission

We exist to provide our schools with the resources to offer independent minded education to their communities.  Our academic focus is on progress. We achieve this with exceptional teaching delivered by outstanding teachers, who are supported by an outstanding team. We provide our students with unique opportunities and elite experiences allowing them to thrive in whatever they pursue.

Invictus Values

Value One – Every day, in every way, our students come first

Our first and most important value.

Value Two – Anything is possible

We focus on the challenge to identify it, our energy is spent finding a solution.

Value Three – Accountability

If it is to be, it is to be me.

Value Four – Seek and seize opportunities

We aim to deliver ‘WOW’ through opportunities and experiences.

Value Five – Focus on relationships and all else will follow

Open, honest and empathic relationships with clear and simple communication are the foundations of our Trust.

Value Six – Start with the end in mind

We identify our aspiration and put processes in place to exceed expectations. We celebrate our progress throughout the journey.

Value Seven – Think Collaboratively

We always ask ourselves; can we include more students, more of our team or more of our schools in everything we do?

See our culture brought to life with the film below

Welcome to your Virtual Tour & Induction

Mr Lopez

Either dive in to the tabs below to find out more about each area of the school, or if you are a little unsure, watch the video directly above to familiarise yourself with lay out of the induction and tour!

We take great pride in the production level of all media we send out to our communities. We believe in delivering the very best for our parents, carers and students, but we hope you appreciate, during this unprecedented time most of our team’s introduction films have been made on ‘selfie’ mode in their own homes! We believe the content of each video is of a much higher value than risking our team’s well being to create more professional films, we hope you do too!

Welcome to the Student Toilets

You may think it is odd thing for us to show; however, it is one of our most frequently asked questions by students who are joining us. Where are the toilets? There are several student toilets at Kinver High, we have these newly refurbished toilets in the old Block, individual student toilets in the new build and toilets in the PE department.

Welcome to the Grange

We are currently constructing Kinver High’s very own mini farm in the garden quad of the Old School block featuring, a Guinea Pig Village, free ranging chickens and a self-grow vegetable patch. This will support the mental health and well-being of our students, as well as offering students the opportunity to learn and care for the animals, gain a better understanding of self-sustainability and acquire an appreciation of the location of the school, in the centre of a rural village.

Our guinea pigs will also become Literacy Reading Buddies and provide a weekly listening ear, for many of our students to practise and further develop their reading skills.

Welcome to the Dining Hall

The dining hall is open for students to purchase and eat their food, before school, break times and lunchtimes. There is always a variety of food on offer to suit all taste buds and dietary requirements. Each day there are different hot meals on offer; often with themed days. There are always jacket potatoes and a pasta and salad bar open. There are sandwiches, wraps and paninis on offer each day, as well as snacks like fruit and yoghurt, toast and hot sandwiches. Purchased food is eaten in the dining hall and there are other designated eating areas for students who choose to bring packed lunches. Students use their student card to purchase food as we have a cashless catering system, money can be uploaded via a student’s edge page.

Welcome to the Art & Design

Art and Design

In year 7 Art and Design we study an exciting range of projects. Students will work in sketchbooks, on larger paper and make 3D sculptures, so there is something for everyone to enjoy.

In the first term we will be learning to draw in a range of materials including pencil, colour pencils, ink, charcoal/ chalk, rubbings and pens. In the second term we will study painting and colour theory and have a competition for who can colour match the best cartoon! In the third term we have a theme of ‘jungle life’ and complete a range of final pieces including a ceramic bug, press printing and a pop-up painting.

We set homework to further expand your skills and have support for this on the EDGE learning platform. Video tutorials and example work is always available.

We also have an end of year art show and a range of artwork will be on display. We have online showcases throughout the year on our Facebook and Instagram accounts, so students work can be celebrated all year long.

The department offers a range of art clubs, for example in the first term year 7 students can participate in a Monet themed painting project. Students can also attend KS3 Art homework club to get extra support from our year 9/10 art ambassadors.

During the year we will post challenges and competitions on EDGE that students can participate in. The house art competition is always popular. We also have entries for the young photographer of the year and young artist of the year, which is sponsored by the Rotary Club.

Year 7 is an exciting year for students to study a wide range of artists and learn about the world of art. With hard work and high aspirations the possibilities are endless.

Welcome to Design & Technology – Mr Wilks

Design & Technology / STEM

During the workshop module you will be introduced to what Design & Technology/STEM is and why, as a society we need it.

We will carry out a design & make project, which will  include  research, introduction to design techniques, including computer aided design (CAD)

We will carry out  a manufacturing activity, where we aim to introduce you to some of the many workshop tools and processes that we use in Design & Technology & STEM.

There will also be an opportunity to join the F1 In Schools team.

Food

In Year 7 Food you can expect to cover a range of food related topics as well as making some different food products.

For many of you, this may be the first real opportunity you have had to cook in school, so we want to make sure you know how to do so safely and produce good quality food products that you and your family will enjoy eating.

The lessons will cover basic food hygiene and safety, you will learn about how we use different pieces of equipment, how to weigh and measure ingredients and how the oven can be used to create different products.

We will also be teaching you about healthy eating and the Eatwell guide so that you are aware of what foods we should try and include in our diets.

Through the different practical tasks, you complete, you will be able to put some of this into practice. In Year 7 we cook a range of dishes such as vegetable cous cous salad, savoury scones, mini fruit cakes, apple crumble, fruity flapjack and mini savoury tarts. By cooking these foods, it will allow you to develop your practical skills as well as being to organise yourself and your work area and work to a strict time plan.

We also run our version of the ‘Bake off’ at Kinver, so hopefully, many of you will want to get involved with that.

Textiles

In Year 7 DT Textiles you will be designing and making two Textiles products over the module.

The first product is a Felt Monster. This is a small product you will have designed where you will demonstrate the practical skills you have developed in lessons.

You will learn how to sew using basic hand stitches, cut out fabrics and be able to follow a pattern to create a unique and unusual product.

We will also be creating a set of juggling bags. Through the designing and making of this product, you will learn the decorative technique of stencilling and how to use a sewing machine safely.

The aim of this module is to get you feeling a lot more confident about using Textile materials and equipment and allow you to be creative along the way.
