Thank you to all the students who bought books at the recent Kinver High School Book Fair. We raised £274.87, unfortunately not quite enough to gain free books for the school, but it was still a great success as so many students bought books.
According to studies conducted by UCL Institute of Education (IOE) researchers at the Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS), teenagers who read often, and those who had access to plenty of books, were more likely to develop a better vocabulary than their peers, knowing 26% more words than those who never read.
English teacher, Mrs Keane, said: “The week-long Book Fair encourages our students to read and is a great opportunity for them to purchase books at a good price. It links well with English lessons in years 7 and 8 as they have to read at the beginning of every lesson. Also, students in year 8 are completing a speaking and listening Invictus qualification based on what they read.”
