At Kinver High School, student wellbeing is central to our ethos. Our dedicated pastoral team—comprising three teaching Heads of School and three non-teaching Year Managers—ensures every child feels safe, supported and valued throughout their school journey.

The school is structured into Lower, Middle and Upper Schools, each led by a Head of School and Year Manager who build strong relationships with students and guide them through each stage of their education. This structure fosters a sense of belonging and provides students with trusted adults they can turn to.

Our wider Inclusion Team includes a SENDCo, an in-house School Counsellor, an Assistant Headteacher for Conduct and Attitudes, and an extended Safeguarding Team, all led by our Deputy Headteacher for Inclusion and Safeguarding. We also work with external professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Welfare Officers, independent counsellors and careers advisors to ensure comprehensive support.

We recognise that some students may need additional help at different points in their school journey. Our 3-Tier Provision and Support Model and 5-Tier Mental Health and Well-being Model provide flexible frameworks that allow us to respond to individual needs with the right support at the right time. These approaches are carefully tailored—if a particular strategy is helping a student to flourish, we continue with it; if not, we adapt and explore alternatives that better meet their needs. We are committed to working in partnership with students, parents and carers to ensure that every child feels secure, confident and empowered to thrive. At Kinver High School, no student is left to struggle alone—our support is proactive, compassionate and always focused on helping each individual reach their full potential. Together, this team works in partnership with students, parents and carers to promote wellbeing, uphold high expectations, and help every student reach their full potential—both in and beyond the classroom.

We are equally committed to nurturing all learners, including those who are able, gifted and talented, and those with special educational needs. Our SEND Team and ‘Den’ facility offer tailored academic and emotional support, while high-quality, differentiated teaching ensures that every student makes meaningful progress. Our most able students are consistently challenged through engaging lessons, enrichment opportunities, and a tutor programme that builds cultural capital and academic ambition. Students are encouraged to develop their talents—whether intellectual, creative, sporting or social—so they can be the best they can be.

Peer support is an important part of our pastoral care. Students have access to trained peer mentors who offer informal support and guidance, helping to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. Leadership and mentoring opportunities across year groups further strengthen our school community and promote positive relationships.

Finally, our unique facility, The Grange, supports mental health and wellbeing through animal care. Featuring a Guinea Pig Village and Rabbit House, it offers students the chance to nurture animals, build responsibility, and engage in therapeutic reading sessions with our guinea pig Literacy Buddies.

At Kinver High School, we are proud of our inclusive and ambitious approach to education. Every student is encouraged to Engage fully in school life, Succeed through personalised support and high expectations, and Aspire to Lead—whether in the classroom, through mentoring, or in the wider community. We believe that every child has the potential to achieve excellence, and we are unwavering in our commitment to helping them realise that success in all aspects of their development.
