Duke of Edinburgh
Kinver High School are proud to hold the status of a Duke of Edinburgh licensed organisation and are able to offer every student in Year 9, Year 10 and Invictus Sixth the opportunity to complete the Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Kinver High works closely with Gecko Experience (Duke of Edinburgh Approved Activity Provider) to offer students all of the relevant training during extracurricular periods, which culminates in a practice and an assessment expedition in the beautiful British countryside. Recent expeditions have included the areas of Long Mynd, Church Stretton and Malvern.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award and is internationally recognised as the standard bearer for young people who contribute to their community and develop themselves personally.
There are three Award levels:
In addition to the expeditions, students complete a period of volunteering, physical activity and skills development for a designated length of time. Kinver High is very proud to offer students this opportunity and has a long and rich history of students successfully completing the award at all 3 Levels.
The D of E programme helps to develop young people for life and work, with 93% of participants feeling that DofE has helped them to work in a team and 84% feel that they have become a more responsible person.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award also allows students to make long lasting memories; from the expedition day where it rained non-stop, to the students who lost their compass and those who found it was more difficult to cook outside than they thought
It is our ambition that your child will look forward to Year 9 when they too, can become part of our Duke of Edinburgh tradition.
Mr Parry is our designated Duke of Edinburgh lead
