📝 General Revision Techniques – The 4R’s of Retrieval

1. Revisit

• Go back over topics regularly to strengthen memory.
• Space out revision sessions instead of cramming.
• Use a revision timetable to ensure all areas are covered more than once.

2. Reduce

• Break topics down into smaller, manageable chunks.
• Create revision cards, mind maps, flow charts, or summary notes.
• Focus on the key points rather than copying out whole textbooks.

3. Rehearse

• Practice knowledge in different ways.
• Try flashcards, quizzes, teaching someone else, or short-answer questions.
• Mix up the order of topics so knowledge can be applied flexibly.

4. Recall

• Test knowledge without notes.
• Complete past papers under timed conditions.
• Review answers against mark schemes to understand how marks are awarded.
