The Kinver 4Rs for Retrieval

At Kinver we explicitly teach students how to ‘Learn More and Remember More’. We do this through the 4Rs.

The 4Rs have been embedded into everyday practice for students and teachers. As teachers we explicitly follow the 4Rs as part of our lesson sequence.

Starting with a:

REVIST—Do Now Task every lesson

We then explicitly teach students the knowledge that they need and explicitly demonstrate how this knowledge can effectively be REDUCED or CHUNKED.

Knowledge is then applied, practised and REHEARSED, so that it can be RECALLED and assessed so that it can ultimately be embedded and RETRIEVED when needed, so that students become successful learners

Students are taught how to apply these techniques and routines to home learning and revision. All students are explicitly taught these in the December Immersion Day in the Autumn Term of Year 7. These techniques are then reinforced throughout their time in KS3 and explicitly revisited in both Year 10 and Year 11 as part of the formal KS4 Plan 2 Succeed Revision programme.
